Hello Hornet Band Families,

It is my hope that this message finds you all healthy and well. These past three months have been full of challenges and setbacks, but I am always thankful for the wonderful support shown by our students and families as we navigated this school year.

There have been some questions come up regarding our intended band trip to Chicago this year and I wanted to take the opportunity to inform you as much as I can.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip. The original plan was to reschedule for the end of May, but as that new deadline started to approach, all of the events we were planning were still closed down. At the end of the school year we contacted the travel company and went ahead with the plan to cancel. As of now, the travel company is working toward a refund for our participants. This has been a slow process and it has been hindered by many businesses gradually opening and working on catching up. The original timeline they have given me is 12 weeks, but could be more depending on the quickly the vendors can get back to them.

It is my hope to be able to keep you posted as I find out more information. I will try and send updates to our participants via email and on the band website www.nkcband.com

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. I may not get back to you immediately, but I will be checking my email throughout the summer.

Sincerely,

Carrie Epperson

Many of us have become aware of the unprecedented events that have challenged our community over the past few days. With the new information being presented from the state of Missouri, Illinois, and the United States government, we have decided to not to travel to Chicago. This difficult decision was made in the best interest of our students, families, and community.

While it is disappointing to have to send this message, please understand that with so many uncertain variables, it was better to err on the side of caution for our students’ safety and wellbeing. We are currently communicating with both the travel company and our school district on alternative plans and information to send to families. As this information becomes clearer, we will be able to communicate these details. We ask that you remain patient with us as we work through all the possibilities to help benefit our students and families.

We are always so grateful for our Hornet Band community. Thank you all so much for everything you do.

Sincerely,

Carrie Epperson

Last Saturday the NKCHS Hornet Band performed at the Carrollton Band competition. This was a highly competitive class with some very good band programs. The NKC Band received 5th place in a very close scoring. We've recieved some great comments and are looking forward to developing our show further.

Ms. Epperson would like to personally thank all of the parents and volunteers for their help to make Saturday so successful! It is amazing how well this program runs with the support of our team. She would also like to thank the band staff, Ms. Fernandes-Bata, Mr. Fillingham, and Mr. Jepson for all of their help in the preparation of the competition. Finally Ms. Epperson would like to thank the Band for their grace under pressure, and their excellent perfornance. It only goes up from here.

Best wishes!
